One state, very different maps

Maryland packs a lot into a small state: 23 counties and Baltimore City, dense suburbs next to Washington, D.C., the Baltimore metro, the I-270 and I-70 corridors out to Frederick and Hagerstown, and rural towns on the Eastern Shore and in Southern Maryland.

That matters for local search, because Google ranks map results partly on how close a business is to the person searching (Google Business Profile Help). In Bethesda or Silver Spring, where competitors sit a few blocks apart, your position can change from one neighborhood to the next. Out on the Shore, people search across wider distances and there are fewer businesses in each category, so the gaps look different.

Competition is real everywhere. The U.S. Small Business Administration counts 696,710 small businesses in Maryland, 99.6% of all businesses in the state (SBA Office of Advocacy, 2025 profile). In most categories, a handful of them hold the top three map spots in each town.

What wins the map in a Maryland town

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance you can't change. The rest you can, and the same few things decide it in almost every town.

What we look at in each town

  • Where you rank across a grid of points in each town you serve
  • Who holds the top three map spots, and what they have that you don't
  • Your Google profile: categories, services, service areas, hours and photos
  • Reviews compared with the local leaders, and whether you reply
  • Pages on your site for the towns and neighborhoods you serve
  • Matching name, address and phone on Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp and local directories

Ranking in more than one town

Google's map pack is built around location. A business with one office will usually rank best near that office, and no honest tactic puts it in the map pack in every town in the state. Google doesn't allow virtual offices or addresses where you don't actually work, and profiles that use them get suspended (Google's guidelines).

What does reach further is your website. A well-built page for each town you serve, with real details about the neighborhoods, the jobs you do there and the customers you work with, can rank in the regular results below the map. Pair that with reviews from customers in those towns and a service area that lists them, and you show up in more places, more often.

If you have offices in more than one Maryland town, each one should have its own Google profile and its own page. We track each location on its own map.

Local proof that carries weight

Search engines and AI assistants look for signs that a business is part of its community. For Maryland businesses that can mean a listing with your local chamber of commerce, coverage in local news, sponsorships of local teams and events, and membership in your trade's state association.

None of this needs to be expensive. A few genuine local mentions, kept consistent with your name, address and phone, usually do more than dozens of generic directory listings.

How it works

  1. 1Scan

We map your rank across your service area for the searches that matter in your trade, audit your website and Google profile, and check what AI assistants say about you.

  2. 2Plan

You get one list of fixes, ranked by impact, in plain English.

  3. 3Fix

Work through the list yourself in the app, or we update your profile, pages, listings and review process for you.

  4. 4Re-measure

We check the same map points again, so every change is compared like for like.

How fast things move depends on your market and your competitors. What doesn't change: every fix shows up on your map, measured from the same points each time, so you see what moved and when.

Do it yourself, or hand it to us.

Questions from Maryland businesses

Do you only work with businesses in Montgomery County?

No. We're based in Germantown and work with businesses across Maryland and the rest of the US. Done-for-you work is done remotely, with everything visible in your dashboard.

Can I rank in the map pack all over Maryland?

Not from one location. Google's map results depend on how close you are to the searcher, so a single office ranks best around that office. Your website can rank in the regular results in other towns, and a second real location can earn its own map spot.

Do I need a page for every town?

Only for towns you actually serve and can say something real about. A few strong town pages beat dozens of copies with the town name swapped.

What does it cost?

Software is $39, $99 or $149 a month. Done-for-you is $249 a month for a website, $599 for local SEO, or from $999 for Local SEO Plus, plus a one-time setup. Bigger projects are quoted. Every plan is on the pricing page, and the free audit needs no card.

How fast will I see more calls?

It depends on your market and your competitors, and Google says no one can pay for a better ranking. What you get is proof: you see the change on your map, measured from the same points every time.
