Local SEO for plumbers: be the call they make when the pipe bursts.

When water is on the floor, people search "plumber near me" and call one of the first names on the map. SOSSRANK shows you where you're one of those names across your service area, and what to fix where you're not. Software from $39 a month, or we do the work. Anywhere in the US.

Your rank changes every few blocks.

Google weighs how close a plumber is to the person searching. You can be first near your shop and invisible in the neighborhoods you drive to every day. SOSSRANK checks your rank from a grid of points across your service area.

Why plumbers lose calls on the map

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance you can't change. Relevance and prominence you can, and for plumbers the gaps are usually the same few things.

What we find most often

  • Emergency plumbing, drain cleaning and water heater repair missing from your Google profile services
  • One services page trying to rank for every job in every town
  • A Google service area that doesn't match the towns you actually serve
  • Few recent reviews that mention the jobs you want more of
  • Name, phone or hours that differ between your website, Google and directories

Set up your Google profile for the jobs you want

Your Google Business Profile is the listing that shows in the map. For plumbers, the primary category does the heaviest lifting, so choose the one that matches your main work, usually Plumber, and add only the secondary categories that are true, like Drainage service or Water heater installation service. Google asks you to use as few categories as possible.

Then fill in the services list with the jobs people actually search for: emergency plumbing, drain cleaning, sewer line repair, water heater repair and replacement, leak detection, sump pumps. Each service you add is one more way to match a search.

If customers don't come to you, Google asks you to hide your address and list the areas you serve instead. You can add up to 20 service areas, and Google recommends keeping the whole area within about two hours' drive of where you're based. Google's service-area rules are short and worth reading once.

Keep your business name exactly as it appears on your van, your invoices and your sign. Google's guidelines don't allow extra keywords or town names in the name, and profiles that add them can be suspended. Put services in the services list and towns in the service area, where they belong.

Give every service and every town a real page

One services page that lists twenty jobs rarely ranks for any of them. A page for each main job, written for the person with that problem, does much better: what the job involves, how fast you can get there, whether you work nights and weekends, and how pricing works.

Town pages help when they say something true and specific about that town: the neighborhoods you cover, the kinds of homes and pipes you see there, and jobs you've done nearby. A page that only swaps the town name in the same paragraph helps nobody, and Google treats it that way.

Link each service page to the towns where you do that work, and link each town page back to your services. It helps people and search engines find their way around, and it's a part of local SEO most plumbing sites skip.

Reviews that mention the work

When a review says "fixed our water heater the same afternoon", it tells the next customer, and Google, what you do and how well you do it. You can't write reviews for people, but you can make it easy for them to say what happened: send the review link the same day, while the job is fresh, and mention the job by name in your message.

Google doesn't allow discounts, gifts or payment in exchange for reviews, and it doesn't allow asking only your happy customers. The review policy is clear on both. The safe, effective habit is to ask every customer, every time, in the same way.

Reply to every review, good or bad, within a few days. Keep replies short, thank people by first name only, and handle complaints offline. A calm, specific reply to a bad review often does more for the next customer than five more five-star ones.

Emergency searches work differently

Someone searching "emergency plumber" at 11 pm will call whoever looks open and close. Make sure your hours on Google match how you really work. If you take after-hours calls, say so on your profile and your site, and add special hours for holidays so Google doesn't show you as closed.

Google also runs Local Services Ads for plumbers in many areas: paid listings that sit above the map, with Google's screening badge. They're a paid channel and separate from the map rankings, but they show up on the same searches, so it helps to know whether your competitors are using them before you decide.

Apple Maps and Bing are smaller, but people with iPhones and some AI assistants rely on them. Claim your listings on Apple Business Connect and Bing Places, with the same name, phone and hours as Google.

Measure it like for like

Rankings on the map aren't one number. They change with the searcher's location, so a single check from your office tells you almost nothing about the rest of your area.

SOSSRANK checks your position from a grid of points across your service area, for the searches you care about, and saves each scan. When you change something, the next scan uses the same points, so you can see what moved and where. That's how you tell a real gain from noise, and how you decide what to fix next.

How it works

  1. 1Scan

We map your rank across your service area for the searches that matter in your trade, audit your website and Google profile, and check what AI assistants say about you.

  2. 2Plan

You get one list of fixes, ranked by impact, in plain English.

  3. 3Fix

Work through the list yourself in the app, or we update your profile, pages, listings and review process for you.

  4. 4Re-measure

We check the same map points again, so every change is compared like for like.

How fast things move depends on your market and your competitors. What doesn't change: every fix shows up on your map, measured from the same points each time, so you see what moved and when.

Questions we hear

Do I need a storefront to show up on Google Maps?

No. Google lets service-area businesses hide their address and list the areas they serve instead. You still need a real business address to verify your profile.

Can you help with emergency and after-hours searches?

Yes. We track searches like "emergency plumber" separately, because they behave differently, and make sure your hours and profile say you take those calls if you do.

Do you work with businesses outside Maryland?

Yes. The app works for businesses anywhere in the US, and done-for-you work is done remotely, with everything visible in your dashboard. We're based in Germantown, Maryland.

How fast will I see more calls?

It depends on your market and your competitors, and Google says no one can pay for a better ranking. What you get is proof: you see the change on your map, measured from the same points every time.
