Local SEO for HVAC companies: be on the map before the first heat wave.
AC repair spikes on the first hot week and furnace repair on the first cold night. SOSSRANK shows you where you rank for those searches across your service area, and what to fix before demand hits. Software from $39 a month, or we do the work. Anywhere in the US.

Your rank shifts across town, and by season.
Google weighs how close a company is to the person searching, and searches swing with the weather. SOSSRANK checks your rank from a grid of points across your service area, for the searches that matter this season.

Why HVAC companies miss the busy-season calls
Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. For HVAC, the gaps are usually about timing and coverage.

What we find most often
- Seasonal services like AC repair, furnace repair and heat pumps missing from your Google profile
- No seasonal pages ready before demand starts
- A Google service area that stops short of towns you serve
- Missing from Bing Places and Apple Business Connect, which Apple Maps and some AI assistants rely on
- Reviews that don't mention the jobs you want more of
Set up your profile for both seasons
HVAC demand swings with the weather, so your Google profile should be ready for both halves of the year. Choose the primary category that matches most of your work, often HVAC contractor, and add only the secondary categories that are true, such as Air conditioning repair service or Furnace repair service. Google asks you to use as few categories as possible.
List both seasons' services: AC repair and installation, heat pumps, furnace repair and replacement, boiler service, duct cleaning, indoor air quality and maintenance plans. A service missing from your profile is a search you're less likely to match.
If customers don't come to you, Google asks you to hide your address and list the areas you serve instead. You can add up to 20 service areas, and Google recommends keeping the whole area within about two hours' drive of where you're based. Google's service-area rules are short and worth reading once.
Keep your business name exactly as it appears on your van, your invoices and your sign. Google's guidelines don't allow extra keywords or town names in the name, and profiles that add them can be suspended. Put services in the services list and towns in the service area, where they belong.
Seasonal pages, ready before the rush
Pages take time to be found and ranked. If your AC repair page goes live in the first heat wave, you've missed most of that season. Build or refresh your cooling pages in early spring and your heating pages in late summer.
Each main service deserves its own page: what fails and why, how fast you respond, what a repair versus a replacement typically involves, financing if you offer it, and the brands you service. Answer the questions homeowners ask on the phone.
Town pages should cover the towns you actually serve, with details that are true for each one: the neighborhoods you cover, the kinds of systems you see in older and newer homes there, and how quickly you can usually get there.
Reviews that name the job
"Replaced our heat pump in a day" helps the next homeowner far more than "great service". Send your review link the same day as the job and mention what you did, so the customer has something specific to say.
Google doesn't allow discounts, gifts or payment in exchange for reviews, and it doesn't allow asking only your happy customers. The review policy is clear on both. The safe, effective habit is to ask every customer, every time, in the same way.
Reply to every review. Busy seasons bring more complaints about wait times, so a fast, polite reply that explains what you're doing about it matters most in July and January.
Cover your whole area, not just your shop
Many HVAC companies rank well near their shop and fade out across town, because Google weighs distance. You can't move your shop, but you can make sure the towns you serve appear in your service area, on your site, and in reviews from customers who live there.
Apple Maps and Bing matter more than most contractors think: homeowners with iPhones use Apple Maps by default, and some AI assistants draw on Bing. Claim Apple Business Connect and Bing Places, and keep the name, phone and hours identical to Google.
If you have more than one shop, give each location its own Google profile and its own page on your site.
Measure it like for like
Rankings on the map aren't one number. They change with the searcher's location, so a single check from your office tells you almost nothing about the rest of your area.
SOSSRANK checks your position from a grid of points across your service area, for the searches you care about, and saves each scan. When you change something, the next scan uses the same points, so you can see what moved and where. That's how you tell a real gain from noise, and how you decide what to fix next.
How it works
- 1Scan
We map your rank across your service area for the searches that matter in your trade, audit your website and Google profile, and check what AI assistants say about you.
- 2Plan
You get one list of fixes, ranked by impact, in plain English.
- 3Fix
Work through the list yourself in the app, or we update your profile, pages, listings and review process for you.
- 4Re-measure
We check the same map points again, so every change is compared like for like.
How fast things move depends on your market and your competitors. What doesn't change: every fix shows up on your map, measured from the same points each time, so you see what moved and when.

Questions we hear
When should we start before our busy season?
Ideally two to three months ahead, so profile changes and new pages have time to be picked up before searches climb.
We cover a wide area. Can you track all of it?
Yes. The map grid can cover your whole service area, and the Growth plan tracks up to 3 locations if you have more than one shop.
Do you work with businesses outside Maryland?
Yes. The app works for businesses anywhere in the US, and done-for-you work is done remotely, with everything visible in your dashboard. We're based in Germantown, Maryland.
How fast will I see more calls?
It depends on your market and your competitors, and Google says no one can pay for a better ranking. What you get is proof: you see the change on your map, measured from the same points every time.
